🎤 Karaoke party: phones instead of a remote, your TV instead of a karaoke bar

A karaoke party on playparty.live is a singer queue that lives in your guests' phones. Everyone joins by scanning the QR on the big screen, taps “I want to sing!” and, if they like, types the song they have in mind. The host sees the queue on their own phone, searches the karaoke version by name — the platform finds clips on YouTube and drops the ones that will not play in an embedded player — and puts a person on stage with a single tap.

The lyrics run on the big screen right next to the video: the current line is large and highlighted, the neighbouring lines are dimmed, and the whole thing moves along with the music second by second. Lines come from the open LRCLIB database by artist and title; when there is no synced version, the screen shows plain lyrics without the highlight, and if the host hears the lines drifting, they nudge them by ±0.5 seconds straight from the console. The lyrics can be mirrored onto the singer's phone too, so nobody has to keep turning towards the TV.

Then comes the fun part: the host taps “End the performance” and voting opens for 20 seconds. The room rates the song from their phones — one to five stars, no voting for yourself, one vote each. Points are the average rating multiplied by the number of votes: five stars from a single friend is 5 points, four stars from five people is 20. That builds the leaderboard of the night, and at the end the big screen shows the podium. There are no bots here and there cannot be — only live voices — and a room takes up to 150 guests, enough for a living room or a full bar.
